GILLARD RULES THE DAY IN AUSTRALIA – RUDD OVERTHROWN BY LABOUR MEMBERS

June 24th, 2010

Did the union heavyweights exert pressure on labour members to evict the then current prime minister?

Gillard now rules with no say from the people.

The elections are coming so what will happen then?

Australia has a new prime minister.  For the first time in the nation’s history it is a woman, but that’s one of the least most remarkable points from a tumultuous 12 hours in Canberra.

As Kevin Rudd finally falls on his sword, standing aside for Julia Gillard to take the Lodge unopposed in this morning’s shock party room meeting, Crikey will have the most extensive coverage in a bumper lunchtime edition:

Julia Eileen Gillard (born 29 September 1961) is a Welsh-born Australian politician who is currently the Prime Minister designate of the Commonwealth of Australia. Gillard is due to be sworn in as Australia’s 27th Prime Minister on 24 June 2010 after a leadership ballot confirmed she had the support of the Australian Labor Party to acsend to the party leadership and hence the Australian Prime Ministership. Before her election to leader of her party, Gillard was the Deputy Leader and the 13th Deputy Prime Minister of Australia.

On 11 December 2007[2] she became the first woman in Australia’s history to assume the prime ministerial role, when she acted as prime minister while Kevin Rudd attended the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Bali.[3] She is also the Minister for Education, the Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations and the Minister for Social Inclusion.[4]

Gillard was elected unopposed as Leader of the Australian Labor Party at a special caucus meeting on 24 June 2010, making her the first female leader of the Australian Labor Party. Gillard will be the first woman in Australian history to become the Prime Minister.

Gillard has been an ALP member of the House of Representatives since the 1998 federal election. She represents the Division of Lalor in Victoria.

TONY ABBOTT SPEAKER BREAKFAST RE-SCHEDULED

June 7th, 2010

Dear Members and Guests,

BREAKFAST IS NOW ON THURSDAY (NOT WEDNESDAY)
CONFIRMATION REQUIRED

CLICK HERE TO RECONFIRM YOUR SEAT

The interest in the Tony Abbott breakfast has been incredible.

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, we have to put the breakfast back one day and it will now be held on Thursday, 10th June at 6.30am for 7am at the Hervey bay Boat Club.

To assist us in this, we are asking all members and guests who have booked to reconfirm their bookings for Thursday’s breakfast. To do this, simply email the Secretariat on admin@herveybaychamber.asn.au or CLICK HERE and confirm the number of seats you are wanting for Thursday’s breakfast.

If you have already paid for a booking and now cannot attend, please let the Secretariat know. You will receive a full refund and those seats will be reallocated.
Please note at this point we can not release any additional seats, however if you wish to be placed on a waiting list, please let the Secretariat know. Preference will be given to members.

Failure to reconfirm your seats will be taken to mean you no longer require those seats for Thursday.  Also, I remind you that if you have committed to attending (and have not paid), but do not show up on the morning, we will still seek full payment for your tickets.

Thursday’s breakfast will be a great breakfast and I am looking forward to seeing you there.

Regards
Bernard Whebell
President

EXAMPLE OF A TELSTRA BUSINESS AWARD WINNER

March 10th, 2010

AN EXAMPLE OF A PREVIOUS TELSTRA AWARDS WINNER

Investment in staff, technology and community keys to rapid growth

Telstra business awards, nominate yourself for the Telstra business awards, Telstra business awards

Canberra-based consultancy, Point Project Management was only founded in 2006, but has grown to become one of Australia’s largest specialist project management consultancies.

Within a short time, the company has won a slew of major construction projects and expanded its presence with offices in Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Perth.

According to founder and Joint National Principal of Point Project Management, Michael Snare, embracing the latest in interactive IT tools, minimising overheads, and utilising highly efficient ISO accredited business processes has enabled them to offer the highest quality and proactive service at exceptional value for money.

Investing in staff and the community is also vital to their success, one such example was committing to raise nearly $100, 000 to help an employee receive treatment for cancer

Point’s successful business model was recognised by the judges of the Telstra Business Awards last year, awarding them the National Winner of the Panasonic Australia Medium Business Award.

According to Mr Snare, the win was just one benefit the company realised by participating in the Awards.

“The process of entering gave us an introspective assessment of our business. We had to focus on key issues such as where we are going to be in five years.

“As a result, we revised our business plan and added more detail about what we wanted the business to achieve in the next five to ten years.”

Another advantage was the extensive media exposure that Point Project Management gained from its win in the Awards, something that smaller businesses often struggle to achieve on their own.

“We had so many people telling us that they had seen us in the newspaper, which was really exciting. Having people congratulate us and acknowledge our achievements is an amazing feeling,” he explained.

“Following the win, we also saw an instant change in the demand for our services. We were receiving phone calls almost every day in the weeks following our win from potential clients and customers with new opportunities,” Mr Snare said.

“For our customers to know that we are at a level to win such a prestigious Award gives them added confidence, which is something that can’t be understated.

“Not long after our success, we won our first open tender, something we hadn’t been able to achieve prior to the Telstra Business Awards. While we can’t attribute this directly to the Awards, I’m sure that it was a contributing factor.”
