NEW FRASER COAST MAYOR GERARD HAS SOME GRAND PLANS FOR STREAMLINING DEVLOPMENT APPLICATIONS

May 17th, 2012

Australian Ugg Boots

Welcome
Gerard O’Connell Mayor

The development industry is pivotal to a strong and prosperous economy for our region.  For every $1M in spend in the development industry this equates to

  • $600,000 in gross regional product
  • $84,000 in state and federal taxes
  • 4.2 full time jobs

Direct employment is generated in a diverse range of vocations including architects, engineers, valuers, ecologists and real estate agents to name a few.  Further, the construction industry directly benefits through the employment of tradesman, civil contractors and the like.  Opportunities in employment are also generated individually for solicitors, marketing, retail suppliers and more.

But most importantly, a strong development industry provides confidence in our region.

I am looking forward to working with the new Council and Executive Team and staff to foster positive outcomes for sustainable development and facilitiation of the growth projected for the Fraser Coast in the coming years.  To assist in achieving this, a major priority will be the completion of the first Consolidated Planning Scheme for the Fraser Coast.  Work is well progressed and Council will be looking to seek public and industry comment later this year.

Council will be continuing its commitment to working with the industry through such groups as the UDIA Fraser Coast Branch and the Development Industry Reference Group to engage on a variety of planning and development issues and to foster a strong partnership with the development industry.

DEVELOPMENT EXPRESSWAY INITIATIVE BY FRASER COAST COUNCIL IS UNDER WAY-HAS IT GOT TEETH…

May 2nd, 2012

TopBuy.com.au

Fast tracking of development applications is said by Michael Ellery of the Fraser Coast Council to be under way and working after it was launched a few weeks ago to assist developers in getting approvals in a timely manner

Micheal Ellery who is a council executive manager for development assessment indicates a ten day turn around period for applications is a reality despite some teething problems.

He has quoted some examples of the fast tracking that has taken place over the last few weeks

Heritage Register listing-Medical Centre Main St HB-Industrial shed in MB.

So is the local Fraser Coast council finally on track? The results will speak for themselves in the near future as we have tackled rising high council application & headworks charges, slow processing times and decreased perceived property values by professionals in the industry and the public alike. How can it be justified that the smaller areas of the Fraser Coast like Howard, Torbanlea, Tiaro etc have to pay the same development charges to council as the Maryborough & Hervey Bay  areas do when the value of property resales bears no resemblance in recent times & developers are unable to makedevelopments in these areas financially viable as the returns are just not there.

Perhaps the council can take/buy.lease some space in these areas to give the general public & developers confidence  in these outlying areas when they see the council actually supporting these locations by taking direct action

We shall see where this all goes under the new leadership of the new mayor Gerard O’Connell and his new team recently elected.

NOTE-I have one such project called the Fraser Coast Trades & Services Centre which would benefit greatly as would the Howard community if the Fraser Coast Council would committ to some space there.  www.fctsc.com.au

FRASER COAST OPPORTUNITIES PARTNERSHIP INITIATIVE BY FRASER COAST COUNCIL

May 1st, 2012

AussiePages.com.au Business & Entertainment Directory

As you are no doubt aware the Fraser Coast Opportunities partnership was launched early in 2011 to provide a network of support for doing business on the Fraser Coast.
In order to maintain the momentum of this initiative, we would appreciate it if the short article below could please be included in your enewsletter:
The Fraser Coast Opportunities partnership has been established with the goal of attracting and encouraging business and creating opportunities for investment, innovation and industry.
In order to maintain the flow of information to businesses, the Fraser Coast Opportunities enewsletter is distributed on a monthly basis and provides information on the latest news and initiatives in place to assist businesses in achieving their goals.  The enewsletter is designed to help keep the business community aware of events taking place across the region, enabling them to maximise opportunities to welcome visitors to the Fraser Coast.
A business profile is also included toward the end of each edition and that profile is copied across onto the soon to be launched Fraser Coast Opportunities website.  Business profiles allow a business operator to put forward their story and gain valuable exposure, as well as providing readers with ideas they may not previously have considered for their own business.
Click here [LINK – http://www.frasercoast.qld.gov.au/web/guest/subscribe-to-newsletter] to receive the Fraser Coast Opportunities enewsletter direct to your inbox; or click here [LINK – opportunities@frasercoast.qld.gov.au] to nominate yourself or another business operator for a business profile, or to receive the most recent version of the Fraser Coast Opportunities enewsletter.

Thank you in advance for your assistance with this and please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any clarification on the above.
