CENTRELINK JOB EXPO TO BE HELD IN HERVEY BAY QLD

September 29th, 2010

JOB EXPO FOR AUSTRALIA WIDE EMPLOYERS

I would like to take this opportunity to extend an invitation for your company to attend the upcoming  Centrelink Jobs Expo. The event is 100% free and details about the Expo can be found below.

Centrelink is holding a series of Jobs Expos across Australia as part of the Australian Government’s Nation Building Economic Stimulus Plan.  The Centrelink Jobs Expos support the ‘Keep Australia Working’ initiative, an Australia wide federal government strategy supporting Australian jobs and industry.

The Centrelink Jobs Expo is intended to provide a vehicle for employers, industry groups, recruitment and training providers, and other key stakeholders, to participate in a local community event that provides people with access to job vacancies, information about options that enhance employability, training opportunities, as well as information about other related local support services.

This will be a great opportunity for employers to promote and effectively fill job vacancies for all job types – a real ‘Jobs Marketplace’.

To date Centrelink has coordinated 30 Jobs Expos around Australia with over 130, 000 Job Seekers and well over 2000 Exhibitors attending.

CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE TO REMAIN RELEVANT

September 28th, 2010

Together we will best address the challenges for Queensland’s Chamber

movement

One of the biggest challenges for the Chamber movement is ensuring that

we remain highly relevant to today’s business community.

Chamber of Commerce & Industry Queensland (CCIQ) is planning a forum for

all Queensland local chambers in March 2011. The purpose will be to help

participants develop relevant skills and knowledge to drive business prosperity

and enable member businesses to achieve a solid bottom line and seed for growth.

We ask that you complete our Expression of Interest form to let us know whether

you would be interested in attending a state-wide forum and what key

issues/topics you feel your chamber would benefit from learning more about.

To help us progress in our planning we ask that you complete this brief online

form

For further information please call us on 07 3842 2267 or

Call for Audit Committee members

The Fraser Coast Regional Council is calling for expressions of interest from people who would like to sit on its Audit Committee.
The structure of the existing audit committee had to change with the introduction of the new Local Government Act on July 1. A committee member has also resigned requiring a replacement.
Under the new Act the number of Councillors sitting on the committee has been limited to two, plus two external members. The committee meets four times a year. Expressions of interest close on 30 September 2010 and should be forwarded to the Council’s CEO outlining your relelvant experience and skills. Further information is available from Council’s Internal Auditor Graham Jeffery on 4197 4547.

Get ready for National Youth Week 2011!

The theme for National Youth Week from 1 – 10 April 2011 is “Own It” and the Council wants young people to do just that by helping to plan the Fraser Coast’s celebrations. A meeting will soon be held to discuss ideas. Watch this eNewsletter and the Council’s website www.frasercoast.qld.gov.au to find out how you can get involved. For more information contact the Council’s Youth Development Officer Sue Lawler on 4190 4330 or Youth Services Officer Patrice Bates on 4190 5806.

Young people rejuvenate Rainbow Gully Community Garden

The once languishing Rainbow Gully Community Garden, off Oleander Drive in Hervey Bay, is bursting into orderly growth again. Young participants in the Hervey Bay Community Solutions’ Get Set For Work program, with the help of the Fraser Coast Regional Council, are clearing, replanting, mulching and nurturing the two-hectare garden back to its original glory. Watch that space as it develops into a gem of a park that we can all enjoy.

MONEY ANGELS FOR YOUR BUSINESS – DO YOU QUALIFY?

September 11th, 2010

What is an Angel Investor?
Angel investors are wealthy individuals who invest in high risk, early stage ventures by reserving a portion of their total investment portfolios to provide emerging companies with seed and startup capital through direct, private investments. Their goal is to achieve higher returns than the typical public markets provide. Most angels are active investors – who contribute their time and experience, as well as offer introductions to valuable contacts essential to the company’s success – because they enjoy the thrill of helping entrepreneurs grow their businesses. To maximize the value added, most angels specialize in industries or technologies they understand, and invest only in companies within close geographic proximity.

What is an Angel Group?
Angel investor groups vary in structure, from formal to informal. Formal groups follow strict participation requirements that guide members’ minimum investment activity and event attendance. Some groups pool members’ capital to make investments on the group’s behalf, while others allow individual members to invest in specific deals of interest.

What do you look for in companies?
We invest in companies that offer exceptional opportunities for high returns on investment. This usually implies companies with the potential to achieve high growth, strong market position, and sustainable advantages. We generally invest in companies that we believe have the potential to grow to more than $50 million in annual revenue within five years. This should be in either a developing market or in an existing market with national scope.
